Much Ado about Storage

Image
It was inevitable. So far we had been working away trying to manage all our created media by storing in external Hard Drives attached to the main computer without backup . Family stuff was backed up online, but we have a lot more being generated now. With the Insta360 camera generating 5.7K video and our other cameras now recording in 4K, things quickly get out of hand. We decided to just take the hit and bought a NAS server for in this year's Boxing Day sale. Along with the server we had to buy the 4 Hard Disks to be put into it.  I first told the computer store guy about the QNAP NAS I wanted to get, to which he gave his bored approval. Then I told him to get me 4 Seagate Barracuda drives. Being a taller guy, he looked down his nose at me and said in his Asian accent, "No Green, it's not good Drive, you buy the Red One for NAS". I paused, I knew what he meant. I said meekly "but, the green drives are on Boxing Day sale and Red ones

Kraftwerk in Wellington

My own discovery of electronic music started in late-1980s to early-1990s, while in India. Forget about internet or mobile phones and most music was still played on cassette tapes. Having grown up on overly sentimental (or highly poetic) Hindi film music with a sad touch, I was looking for a positive sound from the future that was more instrumental.  I went backwards from the current bands to eventually find Kraftwerk, and it ticked all the boxes perfectly for me. It fused futuristic industrial-computer-man-machine themes so well, that it still resonates in the age of approaching AI singularity. Kraftwerk is widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in the history of electronic music, and their impact extends to various genres, including techno, hip hop, synth-pop, and more. Kraftwerk coming to Wellington? It seemed unbelievable, especially considering the senior-

This spring in the Southern Hemisphere has started quite favourably this year. Lots of sunshine and flowering plants. The birds have also joined in with their melodies. This next video is from New Zealand's famous Tui bird, that perched on our backyard Kōwhai tree.

New Ideas

Restlessness - is what occurs - when one has accumulated a lot of creative ideas with no proper platform of expression, and if we are going there - why not do it under a new company and brand. Thus inevitably starts the search for a name.  These days to claim a unique name, means looking for a unique internet domain. First was brainstorming candidates on 'paper', as below, and then matching a domain not already taken. As to the thought behind the particular name, this we have written into our website. "Tangent is the expression of energy reaching beyond the initiating circle to launch new creation and change. Our goal is to use modern toolsets to manifest this and capture similar experience, and ultimately to share. The content is more important than the medium, so we explore every kind." Thus, begins our journey.
